van Gogh Starry Night Recreation
Description: We were told to recreate Vincent van Gogh's Starry Night. We were able to design our backdrop with torn-up tissue paper and acrylic glue. Then we had to create a silhouette of something to put in front of our starry sky. I chose to create a city landscape with black construction paper. Then we were given the choice of how we wanted to create movement in the sky with pastels. Before we created the project, we viewed a presentation about van Gogh and had to write down three things that we learned about him. These facts will be presented with this project when hung up.
Extension Activity: Another activity that I could have students do would be by having them create their own silhouette first and then determine how they want to create a sky. Also, I could have students paint their own recreation of his piece rather than using tissue paper to recreate it. They would have the choice of what colors they would use and the design they wished to use. I think it would also be interesting to have them just paint the starry sky without the silhouette of a place and then make a quilt out of all the student's paintings.
