Dot Day

Description: We listened to the story "The Dot" and were told to create our own dot on a coffee filter with different materials. I used Crayola markers, oil pastels, watercolor crayons, and watercolor for this project. I thought that it was very interesting how certain materials would mix with other materials, whereas others didn't. I found this project to be really interesting because you can learn so much about different materials and how to mix colors to make a cool design. In addition, I really liked using a white crayon to repel the watercolor and create designs on the coffee filter.

Extension Activity: An activity that I could use in my future classroom would be by having my students create a collage of dots after listening to the story "The Dot." They could design this collage with different pieces of construction paper, paint, or even watercolors. Another activity that I could do would be creating sun catchers with coffee filters and having the students design their own sun catchers with different materials like the ones I used in this project. I could read the story for my students and tell them to create their own suncatcher like her dot in the story.
