van Gogh Starry Night Recreation

Image
Description: We were told to recreate Vincent van Gogh's Starry Night. We were able to design our backdrop with torn-up tissue paper and acrylic glue. Then we had to create a silhouette of something to put in front of our starry sky. I chose to create a city landscape with black construction paper. Then we were given the choice of how we wanted to create movement in the sky with pastels. Before we created the project, we viewed a presentation about van Gogh and had to write down three things that we learned about him. These facts will be presented with this project when hung up.  Extension Activity:   Another activity that I could have students do would be by having them create their own silhouette first and then determine how they want to create a sky. Also, I could have students paint their own recreation of his piece rather than using tissue paper to recreate it. They would have the choice of what colors they would use and the design they wished to use. I think it would al...

Rousseu's Hidden Art

Image
Description:  This project was created by using contour lines and upside drawings. We were taught how to do an upside drawing when drawing the animal that we wanted to "hide" in our picture. I chose to hide an elephant in my picture with a blue colored pencil. Then we had to create several designs with warm colors on top of the animal picture and try to hide them with these different designs. Before we created this image, we made red glasses with construction paper and red film. These glasses allowed us to see the picture behind the warm colors. Extension Activity: An extension activity that I could do in my classroom for this could be having students complete an assignment and then use the classes to see the correct answers. Students could also create a large image of this but have a much more detailed drawing that is hidden. I think it would also be cool to use this in a language arts class with flashcards and design the back of the flashcards with the hidden words for s...

Dot Day

Image
Description: We listened to the story "The Dot" and were told to create our own dot on a coffee filter with different materials. I used Crayola markers, oil pastels, watercolor crayons, and watercolor for this project. I thought that it was very interesting how certain materials would mix with other materials, whereas others didn't. I found this project to be really interesting because you can learn so much about different materials and how to mix colors to make a cool design. In addition, I really liked using a white crayon to repel the watercolor and create designs on the coffee filter.  Extension Activity: An activity that I could use in my future classroom would be by having my students create a collage of dots after listening to the story "The Dot." They could design this collage with different pieces of construction paper, paint, or even watercolors. Another activity that I could do would be creating sun catchers with coffee filters and having the studen...
